Introducing Vybrant

Thursday, December 3, 2009

With the release of his latest single, Andre 'Vybrant' Johnson is determined to use music as a way to reach the "Ears Hard" young people that have been sucked into the sub-culture of guns and violence in Jamaica. "Ears Hard," recently released by the Major Links label, is quickly garnering considerable rotation on stations within the Caribbean and overseas Reggae markets, giving a wide platform for Vybrant's anti-violence message.

Originally billed as 'hard-core' Dancehall deejay Squeechie Killer, Vybrant changed both his name and the direction of his life after serious medical issues steered him away from gangs and violence and toward the light of Rastafari. Today, the colorful and energetic Roots Reggae chanter is set to take on the task of using music to spread the Rastafarian messages of peace and consciousness, and guide young people away from the social-ills and pitfalls that Jamaica is desperately trying to combat.

Vybrant has developed his craft as a vocalist and song-writer, working with some of the islands most powerful producers including Bobby Digital, Computer Paul, Dean Fraser, Major Links, and Flava, among others. He has worked the stage with leading Roots Reggae acts like Luciano, Queen Ifrica, Tarrus Riley, Turbulence, performing at many of the islands top festivals and entertainment venues.

In December, Vybrant will take "Ears Hard" to the road, performing at several of the island's biggest Holiday events including New Generation on December 6th, Dean Fraser's live showcase of new talents that are predicted to be the new face of Reggae music; Reggae Fever on December 19th with Bounty Killer, Lady Saw, and many other of Dancehall's biggest superstars; Ocean Splash '009, a celebrity football (soccer) match featuring many of Jamaica's most popular entertainers on December 20th; and the annual Teen Splash concert featuring the top of the top names in Caribbean entertainment on December 26th.

Vybrant's "Ears Hard" music video will be featured on TVJ's Fiwi Choice entertainment program on Saturday, December 5th at 6:30pm.
