BUZz: Chino McGregor Set To Release New Album Titled Chino

“Chino” from Chino McGregor is the most anticipated debut album in reggae this year! At 27, Chino has years of grooming as a member of Freddie McGregor’s Big Ship musical family.

The album is produced and co-written by younger brother Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor (Mavado, Sean Paul). A proven solo artist in Jamaica and Japan (with two album releases to date), Chino is primed to be the breakthrough artist of 2011. Album showcases a variety of styles to re-define the boundaries of contemporary reggae, scripted by the leading producer in the genre. Caribbean Lifestyle Media: Belizean rapper Shyne has a new album coming out and on the guest list is  Dancehall/Reggae artist Barrington Levy, Black Rhyno and Chino.  The album release party will take place at the Princess Hotel in Belize on Saturday, March 26th.

Caribbean Lifestyle Media-The Big Ship is sailing to Japan this weekend.  The Big Ship family will be there for the Yokohama Reggae Bash.  The event is put on annual by the Mighty Crown.  Chino who kicks off a week tour of Japan told us, "This will be the first show to kick off the Japan tour and I'm going to make my set as enjoyable as possible. This concert usually has more than 40, 000 people in attendance and my fans here have been extremely supportive so I really want to make it a great experience for them."

Chino's Never Change was released in Japan a few weeks ago-album made it to the second positive on the Japan Reggae Itunes chart.  Fans of Big Ship can check out their youtube channel.  Look out for Big Ship  to Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, Kobe, qand Fukuoka.

Caribbean Lifestyle Media-Chino, no stranger to us and the Dancehall/Reggae world recently created a stir in Japan with his Japanese version of "From Mawning".  The Japanese market is hot commodity for those who can break through.  This new version of his hit will be included on his album to be released in Japan titled "Never Change". 

Chino told us, "Right now I'm trying to be as meticulous as I can and work as hard as I can to get to the point where when I'm older I can look back and say I definitely made a great impact on Reggae and Dancehall music. So hearing that the songs are continuing to do really well in the Japanese market is something I'm definitely happy about. My friends and fans in Japan can look out for me soon really soon and for the release of the album. Then right after that I will be heading to the US for the release of the US album."

Amidst recent blows to Jamaica's image on the local and international landscapes, Dancehall and Reggae artistes shone at Sunday's Best Of The Best Concert in Miami.

Some of Dancehall's finest, including Mr. Vegas, Chino, Baby Cham, Lady Saw, Gyptian, G-Whizz, Romain Virgo and Serani, alongside international artistes, P. Diddy, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes and others, put on show-stopping performances at the concert, which attracts more than 40, 000 persons from across the Caribbean and the USA each year.

Mr. Vegas' set was inundated with cheers from the excited audience as he perfomed Heads High, We Nuh Want Nuh Friend, where he denounced persons doing illegal activities in Jamaica and Gallis, which worked the crowd into a frenzy. Mr. Vegas also took the time to lift the spirits of the (Jamaicans in the) crowd by performing several gospel songs in addition to his single, I Am Blessed which earned him an encore.

Mr. Vegas whose correct name is Clifford Smith said, "It was great being there. It was my first time performing at Best Of The Best. Over the years somehow I've always been confirmed for another show on that date, so I'm happy this year I could be here. The show was great in terms of production, quality and vibes from the crowd and I have to commend my fellow artistes for putting on great performances despite the circumstances at home and everything the country has been through over the past few weeks."

Mr. Vegas headed to New York next and will be travelling to Europe for performances in a few days. He returns to the island in August.

Dancehall singjay Chino and producer/artiste Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor were also praised by fans as two of the concert's top performers for the evening. Chino said, "Before leaving the island to be honest, I only had one thing in mind and that was to put on one of my best performances. To me, artistes are musical ambassadors, and I wanted to get out on the international stage and represent Jamaica and our tremendous talent the best way I could."

Chino, Di Genius and other members of the Big Ship family then made their way to New York for the annual Memorial Day Celebrity Football Match. Also present at the match were a number of Reggae/Dancehall artistes and producers, including Assassin, Shabba Ranks, Versatile, Romain Virgo, producer/street promoter, Johnny Wonder of 21st/Hapilos and others. Chino returned to the island yesterday (Tuesday) evening.

BLUEPRINT-It almost seems like a gross understatement to say, 'Reggae/Dancehall artiste Chino has been hard at work'. This is so because the singjay has released more than seven impressive songs over the past few weeks and has no intention of slowing down.

Among Chino's new releases which have already started to heat up radio-land, are Before Dem Gone produced by Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor on the Big Ship label; No Gyal on the Catalogue Riddim also produced by Di Genius on the Big Ship label; Sound Execution on the Stagalag Riddim, produced by Shane Brown on the Jukeboxx label;Gyalist Fi Real on the Ward 21 label; Haffi Get A Girl on the Premium Riddim on Demarco's Starkutt Records; Money Round also featuring Di Genius and Ricky Blaze on ZJ Chrome's CR203 Mad Collab Riddim. In addition to that, another recent single, Badmind, which was also released for sale on iTunes has been receiving steady sales. The single, which is a part of the compilation Di Genius, called Labwork Vol. 2. The single will also be released on Chino's Never Change slated for release in the Japanese market in July.

Regarding his continuously growing catalogue of songs, Chino, whose correct name is Daniel McGregor says, "Music is something that I love but it's also a craft that I respect. I always try to look at my surroundings and give my own spin on it, whether it's a party setting that would inspire a song like Money Round or a song like Before Dem Gone which was as a result of everything going on in the country now. Basically once I observe something and get a vibe, I get in the studio and sing what I think and feel."
Additionally, Chino will be working his way across the island this weekend at a number of shows which include, Islingston High School's Barbeque tonight (Friday); the highly anticipated Western Consciousness concert tomorrow night followed by a performance in St. Elizabeth on Sunday night.

Blueprint Publicity and Promotions-Reggae and Dancehall artiste Chino has scored yet another achievement. The artiste who has accumulated a number of awards including those at the EMEs, Youth View Awards and Magnum Stone Love Awards in recent months, has again been nominated, this time for an IRAWMA award.


Chino, whose correct name is Daniel McGregor, was nominated in the category 'Most Improved Entertainer' at this year's 29th International Reggae & World Music Awards, (IRAWMA). Chino says, "When I heard I couldn't help but smile. I feel really blessed for people to appreciate my work. I've been in the music industry for as long as I can remember; some people may remember me as 'Cappachino' an' dem time deh a lot of people refused to even give a second glance no matter how good a song was. But nothing beats persistence, and I stuck with it. It's been a long journey, an' as we say 'from mawnin wi a hustle an' put we all in'. It's not just a song. It's my life; so I'm really appreciative to the fans, the media, the selectors and everybody both here and overseas for showing love."

The singjay who is known for hits ranging from From Mawnin', Protected, Ruff It Up, Pon Yuh Head, and more, will attend the event staged by Martin's International & Associates on Sunday, May 2 at the York College Performing Arts Center in New York. This year's IRAWMA ceremony is dedicated to the People of Haiti and Health Awareness.

Caribbean Lifestyle Media-Chino who has made a name for himself, speak to the youths often, and warned those in society that from mawning things have not been right. It is no surprise to hear "in di streets". This riddim is on the "Bad People" produced by his brother Stephen Mcgregor. Mavado, Kari Jess, and Laden are notable on this riddim. Chino stated this the song is a conscious song about Jamaica's crime rate-"It's a reflection of what's happening around us and in our island. It's reality and it's something that I had to sing about and express how I see it and feel. Music is my diary."

Caribbean Lifestyle Media would like to take this time to congratulate all the winners of EME awards. Chino who received the "breakthrough artiste of the year", alongside Jah Vinci released a string of hits such as "From Mawning", "Pon yuh Head", and "Protected".

Chino whose correct name is Daniel McGregor says, "I have to say thanks to everyone who helped me to make my success possible. One person can't do it, it takes a lot of belief in yourself and a great team, great fans and media persons and others in the industry who believe in you. So thanks to everyone and for the new year I'm staying focused and coming with a lot of hot new tracks and two albums: one for the US market and the other for Japan."


Spice also won the category of "Female Dancehall Artiste of The Year". Spice Stated,"I was off the island every weekend from the beginning of the year right up until December. People will look on and see artistes travelling and putting out the songs and think that it's easy. No way was it easy doing all that, being a mother and running two businesses, so I am extremely excited and happy about being acknowledged for the hard work I put in and I'm so thankful to everyone. I can't say it enough,"

Caribbean Lifestyle Media-Greensleeves Publishing recently reported that they have signed exclusive agreements with leading singer/songwriter Gappy Ranks, Chino, and Laden. Gappy Ranks is said to have signed a record deal with Greensleeves. Ranks tune is also featured on "Strictly the best vol 40" and "Biggest Reggae One-Drop Anthem 2009".

Chino and Laden has inked a co-publishing deal with Greensleeves's United States affiliate STB Music. Chino who is responsible for two of Dancehall's recent biggest hits "Never Change-From Mawning" and "Protected" alongside St. Elizabeth's own Laden, "Time to Shine" is featured on Reggae Gold 2009 compilation. Congrats to Gappy Ranks, Chino, and Laden.

Caribbean Lifestyle Media-Chino who has been consistently releasing new tunes along with music videos recently, can now add another notch to his belt. Chino was recently awarded "Best New artiste" at Stone Love's 37th anniversary at Mas Camp in New Kingston.

Chino who recently released the smash hit "from mawning". The video was directed by Michael "Biggz" Burbridge out of the Big Ship camp.

Caribbean Lifestyle Media: Chino and the Big Ship Family have done it again! They have released the video for the number one single, From Mawning. Directed by Michael "Biggz" Burbridge, edited by Troytan and produced by Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor, the video promises to be yet another hit among fans.


"The video and the song compliment each other, and in a way it speaks of my journey in music and I'm sure the journey of others who have made it to the top but still remain humble. That's Chino; that's always been my personality and as the song says, 'I'll never change'.


The video is definitely outside the box. We went to a number of areas around Jamaica and we managed to highlight a lot of hardworking people in the video, both adults and students because we wanted it to be something everybody could identify with," said Chino.Check out the video now!

After last week Saturday's explosive launch of the Magnum '10 Long 10 Strong' anniversary concert series in Cambridge, St. James, tomorrow night's show in May Pen, Clarendon promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.

Outfitted with some of the best artistes and selectors in the industry, namely: Lady Saw, Chino, DJ Sunshine, Boom Boom and Pink Panther, Saturday night's Magnum 10th anniversary show, glorifies the entertainment industry's past and present with a flurry of excitement.

Also added to the well-rounded lineup is: clothing designer, Mamayashi, the vibrant Dance Xppressionz dancers, the energetic Magnum Girls and the always-humorous host, Pretty Boy Floyd.

Gary Dixon, Category Manager at Lascelles in charge of all local brands, inclusive of Magnum Tonic Wine said, "Last week's launch of the Magnum 10th anniversary series of concerts in Cambridge was excellent. There's no other way to say it. I had a lot of fun and I know those from the community had a blast. The size of the crowd was testament to that. We are just so happy that everyone came out and had a great time and enjoyed the show that we put together just for them. I know it's hard to imagine, but I can guarantee that Saturday night's show in May Pen will be even better! People need to just come out and enjoy themselves to the fullest because it's FREE!"

The event is slated to to begin at 10 pm across from the Total Gas Station (Formerly Leiba's Esso) and ends at 2am sharp.

Buzz: Chino in St. Andrew & May Pen This Weekend!


It's been a whirlwind week for Dancehall/Reggae singer, Chino, and his weekend will follow suite. The artiste who recently wrapped up filming the medley-video for Pon Yuh Head and From Mawning has caused non-stop excitement with the release of his new single, featuring Alaine, Secret Lovers.

The song, which pays homage to the love shared between two characters was released a few weeks ago, and has so far charted both locally and overseas. In addition, Chino has been performing across the island on a slew of shows; they include: LIME's office party and attending the International Youth Conference in Montego Bay earlier this week.

Tonight (Friday) fans can tune in and watch TVJ's entertainment program, ER, with Chino and Alaine, to hear what the two have to say about their "secret love". Then tomorrow night, Chino will be at it again as he rips the stage at the Wolmer's Barbecue in St. Andrew, then makes his way to May Pen, Clarendon for the Magnum 10th anniversary celebrations in the parish.

He says, "It's a lot of work and a lot of late nights and traveling, but it's something that I love and I can't picture myself doing anything but music." To get a copy Join here

Chino and Alaine: Secret Lovers?

Dancehall artiste Chino and Alaine have released a new sultry single, shich is sure to raise more than a few eybrows.
The new single, Secret Lovers, pays homage to the love Chino and Alaine's two characters share, but more so keeping it a secret in the rough-and-tumble world of entertainment.

Should we believe what we hear?
According to Chino whose correct name is Daniel McGregor: "Me and Alaine mad cool. We have mutual respect and love for each other. She is extremely talented and the feeling is mutual on her part ;hence us doing this song was very easy and natural."

In the meantime, Chino yesterday shot the medley video for From Mawning and Pon Yuh Head, both of which have been heavyhitters in radio-land. He says, "I'm immensly greatful for that because both songs were on the charts soon after they were released and the public, both here and abroad love the songs and it shows when I'm performing them live. So ah jus' nuff blessings."

Though on tour in Europe, Chino still has time to be releasing new singles...and here's ANOTHER one! It's called Pon Your Head and it is produced by ace-producer, Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor. Though only a few days old, it's already receiving significant airplay for obvious reasons -- it's HOT!

Chino Unstoppable in Europe

Europe can't seem to get enough of Dancehall artiste Chino. The singjay continues to perform infront of a full-house every night since leaving Jamaica three weeks ago. More recently, he has completed shows in Glocester (England), Brighton (England), Vienna (Austria), Rototom (Italy), Montpellier (France) and more. Chino, whose correct name is Daniel McGregor says the tour has been a "fantastic time so far. Every stop is different and has a different vibe to it, so you can never get bored."


Being away hasn't stopped Chino from continuing to create an impact on the local music scene. In fact, his songs, including Protected, From Mawnin', Ruff It Up and more are continuous features on local and international stations. Also while on tour, the camp has released a new riddim created by, brother, Stephen McGregor called the 'Fitness riddim' which also features Chino and others. Click here to listen.


Also on the tour, are other members of the Big Ship family including legendary reggae singer, Freddie McGregor, dancehall artiste Laden and singer, Shema McGregor. They return to the island in September.
